Yes, looking at Mou's teams, I didn't think he meant the style of play.

Though it's hard to think of any who've been at Barca who haven't been affected by it, the one's who've been negative mainly cite the political machinations (Van Gaal, Maradona, er, Emmanuel Petit).

Although I don't think he does respect Cruyff, especially with his closeness to Van Gaal.

I recently saw an old match between Barca and Valencia, 3-2, this was pre football globalisation when you can see every game from everywhere and I forgot how star-studded it was, Aragones and Mendietta for Valencia, Ronaldo, Guardiola, stoichkov, Blanc, Figo for Barca. I don't know if he was particularly high profile back then but there were more close-ups of mourinho than anyone else on the bench including dear old bobby. He was the only one to jump up when they scored, and sat down quick a bit embarrassed. Ronaldo was like a tank! Where you going to see them in that era, lucky if you were.

I read his compliments.
I guess what he is saying is that he refers to the youth team structure, how it is all organised to promote first team players, the passion of the team and the importance of it for the inhabitants where they come from. How they always have a football culture, where they don´t change regarding the opponent. I think Mourinho respects Cruyff, but they have had a bit of bitching, both are massive divas and I seriously think that Mourinho wanted to come to coach Barça, to become bigger than Cruyff. to have more of an importance. Whether you like it or not, Cruyff has hugely shaped Barça as a team.

I don't know if you saw Jose Mourinho's compliments this week about Barcelona, saying he was influenced more by its philosophy and unique football culture than by any coach.

What do you think is meant by the Barca philosophy and culture?

I thought Cruyff was a major part. But hard to see Mou being in thrall to that, given how he's spoken before of the malign influence he thought Cruyff had at the club before and during his time there.
